Work will continue during COVID-19 in order to adhere to critical project milestones, and crews are taking extra precautions to ensure their safety and that of the public. Crews have been asked to stay 6 to 10-feet apart when possible and are wearing masks during activities that require closer contact. TRAFFIC IMPACTS - PLAN AHEAD
Starting Thursday, Sept. 10, crews will be adding the final layer of pavement on both sides of 4100 South. This work is expected to last through Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Drivers should expect traffic shifts as part of this work. In addition, access to driveways will be temporarily closed as the paver passes. Residents who need frequent access to their vehicles should park along side streets while paving is happening in their area. During this time, parking on 4100 South will be prohibited. All paving operations are subject to change.
Traffic Shift onto New Pavement
As of June 18, crews shifted traffic through the last segment of 4100 South from the south side of the road to the north side of the road from 4900 West to 5460 West. Drivers are now traveling on new, smoother pavement through the entire project area.
Driveway / Travel Lanes Access: North Side of 4100 South
Crews have paved the north side of 4100 South from Bangerter Highway to 5460 West. Drivers can now enter the travel lanes at a place where the road heights are more level with one another.
Driveway / Travel Lanes Access: South Side of 4100 South
Crews have started reconstruction on the south side of 4100 South. They are working from east to west to excavate the existing roadway. Once they remove the pavement, residents within the work zone will have a dirt road base in front of their property. To access the travel lanes, drive on the dirt road base to the nearest cross street where the road heights are level with one another. Please avoid accessing the travel lanes where the height difference is significant.
Garbage and Recycling Removal: North Side of 4100 South
As of Dec. 19, 2019 residents on the north side of 4100 South should place garbage and recycling cans at the edge of the new curb and gutter facing the the new pavement, for pickup.
Garbage and Recycling Removal: South Side of 4100 South
During work on the south side of 4100 South, residents should place garbage and recycling cans at the edge of the travel lane in line with the northernmost orange construction barrels until the new curb and gutter is placed. If you have questions on where to put your garbage and recycling cans, please call 801-872-3941.
For residents whose yards have been impacted by the project and are now experiencing an issue with their sprinkler system, please call the project hotline at 801-872-3941. Residents should not alter their sprinkler system themselves.
The 4100 South Reconstruction project is removing the fences and walls along the north side of the street in order to widen the roadway and make room for the planned park strip, street lighting, and upgraded traffic signals. The project team is placing temporary fencing on the affected properties while they work on pouring the curb and gutter.
Safe Pedestrian Routes
Pedestrians looking to go east or west on 4100 South should do so on the sidewalk on the south side of the road and avoid the work zone on the north side whenever possible. Parents and students looking to reach Farnsworth Elementary should use the designated crossing at Accord Way (4225 W). As of Jan. 30, 2020, an upgraded pedestrian crossing is now in place!
Please use caution when walking or biking along the corridor.
4100 South will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the end of construction. Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route when possible.
